Timetable & Prices

Timetable - Prices - Worth knowing

On these pages we will inform you about all important details of your travel with us. Please use the navigation bar on the right hand side.

Brohltalbahn tries to make travel on "Vulkan-Expreß" as pleasant as possible for people with reduced mobility. Please note, however, that the design of the historic vehicles sometimes means restrictions on freedom of movement or even the boarding of people with reduced mobility.

We have put together the most important information for you:

Accessibility of our train stations & boarding the train

Our train stations offer a historic ambience and are usually not barrier-free. Platforms and entrances are sometimes level, blind guidance systems are not available. The entrance to our historic wagons is always connected with 2-3 steps, depending on the platform height. Mobile ramps are available for loading rollators, wheelchairs, strollers and bicycles into the luggage car. We are working to significantly improve accessibility in the next few years.

Our train stations are characterized as follows:

  • Brohl B.E.

Brohl B.E. can be reached from the station forecourt via a long staircase or alternatively via a stony driveway. We recommend people who rely on stepless access to walk from the bridge ramp of Brohltalstraße across our premises in front of the locomotive shed and then on the gravel path along the rail tracks to the platform. Length of this access: approx. 300 m.

    P1070617          P1080276

Seating is available on the platform and can be reached without steps. The toilet facilities (no wheelchair access) can be reached with one step from the platform. Platform surface: grit. There are 2 steps to be overcome when boarding the train.

  • Schweppenburg-Heilbrunnen

The platform at the Schweppenburg-Heilbrunnen stop and the brick waiting hut with seating can be reached from the road to the Tönissteiner mineral spring. There are no toilets. Platform surface: grit. There are 2 steps to be overcome when boarding the train.

  • Bad Tönisstein

The platform in Bad Tönisstein can be reached from the Brohltalstraße opposite the former Jägerheim tavern. However, access is via a long, sometimes bumpy ramp. Seating is available on the platform, there are no toilets. Platform surface: grit. When boarding the train, 2 steps must be overcome in the area of the (short) platform.

    P1070828          P1070599

  • Burgbrohl

The platform at Burgbrohl station is accessible from Brohltalstraße and from the parking lot around the station building without steps. A rail track must be crossed at ground level. The platform can only be reached by a staircase from Lindenstrasse as well, which runs behind the station. There is seating and toilets (no wheelchair access) available during the opening hours of the station restaurant. Platform surface: grit. There are 2 steps to be overcome when boarding the train.

    P1060526          P1070518

Rollators

We are happy to transport rollators in our luggage car. The aisles and entrances of our passenger cars are unfortunately too narrow to place rollators directly at your seat. Our staff will be happy to help you get started and store your rollator in the luggage car for you.

Wheelchairs

We are happy to transport wheelchairs in our luggage car. The aisles and entrances of our passenger cars are unfortunately too narrow to allow wheelchair users direct access. Our staff will be happy to help you get started and store your wheelchair in the luggage car. A minimal ability to walk and climb stairs is therefore required. Unfortunately, we cannot transport electric wheelchairs due to weight reasons.

Stroller

We are also happy to accommodate strollers for you in our luggage car. Unfortunately, the aisles and entrances of our passenger carriages are too narrow to place baby carriages directly at your seats. Strollers with a removable shell are therefore an advantage. Please remember to take all the utensils you might need for your child with you to your seat. Our staff will be happy to stow your stroller in the luggage car for you.

Bicycles, e-bikes etc.

We store bicycles, e-bikes, segways, etc. for you in our luggage car. Mobile ramps are available for loading. Our staff will be happy to help you store your bikes. Bicycle parking spaces can be reserved online via the Radbusse website.

Luggage

We would be happy to accommodate your luggage (suitcases, bags, sports equipment, etc.) in our luggage car. Smaller pieces of luggage and hand luggage can also be stowed directly in the passenger cars in the luggage racks located above the seats or under the seats.

Handicapped

Our severely handicapped guests travel with us free of charge in 2nd class by presenting their ID with special signs for free use of public transport (signs "G", "aG", "Bl", "H" or "Gl ") and the valid token. ID cards marked with "B" also include free travelling of an accompanying person. The transport of severely disabled persons, their accompanying persons and medical wheelchairs as well as their hand luggage is based on the currently applicable version of the Severely Disabled Persons Act.

Birthdays

Passengers who join us on their birthday travel for free!

1st class supplement

Most of our trains convey 1st class coaches. Compared to the hard seating with wooden benches in the 2nd class, you will find comfortable upholstered seats in groups of two and four. To use 1st class, a distance-dependent supplement per person and direction of travel is required in accordance to the table above.

Children from 6-15 years pay half the supplement. For the use of 1st class in steam trains, the steam supplement is also charged (see below).

Steam supplement

Days with steam-hauled trains are associated with a significantly higher requierement of personnel and rolling stock. We therefore have to charge a steam supplement for all steam-hauled passenger trains per person and direction. A small contribution for a great experience!

The amount of the steam supplement is shown in the table above. Children from 6-15 years pay half the supplement. Steam supplement on the entire line to Engeln are only charged up to Oberzissen, since the section Oberzissen - Engeln is only served by diesel trains.

Tickets of public transport associations and Deutsche Bahn

Tickets of public transport associations and DB tickets (BahnCard, Quer-durch-Land-Ticket, Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket etc.) are not valid for travel on Brohltalbahn with the exception of the VRM tickets shown above.

Bus connections from Engeln station

VMR 819 Engeln 210619 Foto Volkhard Stern Kopie

There are attractive bus connections from Engeln train station to other tourist highlights in the Laacher See volcanic region:

  • Line 322 "Freizeitbus Vulkanpark" runs every 2 hours from Monday to Friday and hourly on weekends from Engeln to Maria Laach and Mendig as well as to Spessart and Kempenich.

Further connections to Maria Laach and Mendig are available from the Niederzissen train station every hour or two hours by bus line 810.

More Information

Of course, our trains are also included in the electronic timetable information systems for European rail traffic and for regional public transport. Regular data updates keep the electronic timetable information up to date. You can also call up additional and short-term trains here.

You can choose between two systems:

Electronic Timetable by Deutschen Bahn

For national rail information including the Brohltalbahn, we recommend the Deutsche Bahn timetable information.

Eingabemaske Hafas

We recommend that you generally remove the checkmark "Show fastest connections" from the information provided by Deutsche Bahn. So you get more versatile and often cheaper, but only slightly slower connections. To search for the connections of the Brohltalbahn, it may be necessary to deselect the bus lines under "More means of transport", otherwise our trains may be suppressed because of the faster buses. The system is currently only of limited use for searching for additional bus connections in the Brohl Valley which better can be found in the VRM system.

Electronic Timetable by Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel (VRM)

Regional information is preferably available from the timetable information provided by the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel (VRM), which also provides the most up-to-date information on additional bus services in the Brohl Valley.

Eingabemaske ASS2

The VRM timetable information is ideal for searching for bus and train connections in the region, including the relevant fare information. National timetables are also included. If you also want to use long-distance trains, remove the check mark in the "Search settings" for "long-distance trains". For a targeted search of the trains on the Brohltalbahn, it may be advisable to deselect the "Bus" and "On-Demand" checkmarks in the search settings.

Beside our regular traffic, we offer you numerous events combined with travels on Brohltalbahn.

Please visit our event calendar for additional information.

Notice that the a registration is required for all of these events.
